If you need a GREAT night out with just the girls, this is the place! I just went on a Monday night for their “Psychic Night” and boy oh boy, did we have a good time. I’m going to make it a point to go back every month at the very least. When someone told me about this place a couple of years ago, I didn’t think much about it. I was dead wrong. It’s now one of my must-not-miss places on Long Island. They’ve also won several “Best of Long Island” awards.
The Milk & Sugar Cafe is decorated like a Victorian living room or lounge with couches, as well as tables and setees. You’d never know that you were on the Main Street business district once you take a step inside. The Cafe has the regular tables as well as low tables in the couch seating areas so larger groups can dine together. There were groups of women relaxing, having a good time, sharing bottles of wine, elegant cheese boards with all the trimmings and beautiful hors d’oeuvres. It’s comfortable, not too big, but it is really bustling with activity.
The food was simply outstanding and beautifully presented on square white China plates which truly were like a work of art. You may be thinking this is just a “girl place” but I had one of the best jumbo cheeseburgers of my life! Even though I was very bad, most of the options lean towards the healthy side.
Every dish on the table was exquisite, and so was every dish I saw pass by. The presentation can’t be surpassed in even the finest NYC eateries. For instance, we had an order of onion rings that were creatively served on this wire airplane with dipping sauce on the wings. Yes, it sounds weird, but trust me, it was a marvel. For dessert, they have just too many choices of baked goods, homemade ice creams (that’s the “milk” part) and then they have these giant-sized ceramic cups filled with coffee or espresso to really top off the night. A table of women sitting nearby said that their Sunday Brunch is the best they’ve ever had. Another raved about their Friday night Fresh Fish & Jazz night. Another likes the Funk & Jazz music on Saturday nights. All I heard were the most flattering compliments ever for this most unusual place.
On Monday night, only about 4 brave men dined at Milk & Sugar, but on their Jazz nights, I hear its more balanced. The point is, Milk & Sugar Cafe is to women on the Monday Psychic Night, as Morton’s is to the men! If you’re in the city & headed to the Hampton’s, take the south shore route and make a pit stop for a quick and fabulous dinner in Bayshore, you’ll be so happy you did.
